Coffee Makers

For those of us who drink the drink, it's one of the first questions we ask. We're staying in a hotel, war were we are visiting with family or were at a new place the first question we want to know often it is where's the coffeemaker? Coffeemakers make the coffee. While it may sound overly simplistic, a coffeemaker can really make or break an unbearable trip, bearable. If we are over with the in-laws and you have to sit and listen to her mother's stories about how “when Katie was this old we used to do this” complete with the photo while loans and all the tears and all the memories, having that coffee maker available to you can sometimes be the only thing you can get you through the weekend.

But when you're shopping for the coffeemaker what is the threshold? What is the absolute minimum your coffeemaker needs to be able to do for you? For some people it's a straight pot of coffee; for some, they need an espresso machine; for some they need a milk steaming lawn; for some they need even more. So it's important to first decide what kind of coffee maker you would like so you can make a firm decision on the coffeemaker you're going to get.

Coffee makers come in all shapes and sizes. If you’re curious, you should do what any conscientious consumer does and you should investigate before you make a run out to the store. Once you’re in the store there will undoubtedly be salespersons who want to get you to spend the most money possible or they may be partnering with a brand when you enter into the store so they may try to push on you whatever brand it is that they’re featuring this week.

While that isn’t the most ethical thing for a salesperson to do, it should be your job before you go into the store to pore over all the information you find relevant so that you don’t spend too much on what you don’t want and you get the right coffee maker that’s got all the features and such, that you desire.

In terms of what is the “best” coffee maker that depends a great deal on your relationship with coffee. If your whole thing with coffee is merely as a tool and you’d just assume make one cup on the way out the door as the whole pot you always do, then discard, you’re in luck! There is a coffee maker for your needs! The one cup coffee makers or single cup coffee makers are actually a very real thing and are quick, easy to use, quite popular, and have less cleanup!

If you’re much more deliberate and take your time with your coffee and are much more of the school of coffee flavor, perhaps you should invest in French press. A French press also makes coffee essentially by the cup (or in smaller 10-16oz variety container) but using a French press is a much more deliberate coffee experience with, what those with the time would consider, bigger payoff.

As always, though, know your coffee maker before you buy. There are a number of reviews for you to consider and a number of name brands, like Senseo, and types, like Automatic coffee makers, for you to consider.
